A train crash on Thursday led to a hefty price tag in damages.
A semi-trailer carrying urea pellets, which is a fertilizer, was knocked over, spilling salt and diesel over the road, when it struck a train at the Boyce Memorial Drive tracks near Thornton Park in Ottawa, Thursday.
The damage to the train, which remained on the tracks, was estimated at $7,500 while damage to the semi-tractor and trailer was estimated at $70,000, according to information from the Ottawa Fire Department.
Firefighters controlled spilled diesel fuel using on-hand absorbents and shovels to prevent it from entering the sewer system. Western Sand was contacted to provide a sand mix to help absorb the spill.
