Douglas Albert Williams

Douglas Albert Williams, age 62, died at his home on Tuesday June 11, 2019. He lost his courageous battle to ALS and Frontotemporal Degeneration.

Over the course of 36 years of faithful service as a United Methodist pastor, he led churches from Harmon-Eldena, Normal, Earlville, Maple Park, Ottawa, Rockford, and Barrington (all of Illinois). Doug also managed the Ottawa Food Basket for several years. One of his joys was starting a Toy Car Ministry at Aldersgate UMC, Rockford and Salem UMC, Barrington that has given thousands of handmade toy cars to thousands of children.

Doug and Lisa shared a deep love and wonderful marriage. He was a great Dad who guided and loved each of his children so much and whom he was so very proud of and blessed by. He was so excited to be Papa to his grandkids. Doug had a great sense of humor, a quiet strength and genuineness about him. He lived a life of deep faith, showing love and compassion in all he did, touching many hearts and lives in so many different ways wherever he was.

Doug will be lovingly and deeply missed by Lisa, his wife of 36 years, and their children, Stephanie (Brian) Smith, Jason (fiancée Carly Vadnais), Chelsea, and Stacey (fiancé Jeffrey Spalding) Williams. He will also be remembered by his three grandchildren, Justin, Evelyn, and Paul Smith along with his mother Dorothy, and two brothers Jeff (Luann) and Jon (Aimée) Williams.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Gerald (Jerry) Williams.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10:30am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church located at 4055 North Rockton Ave, Rockford, Illinois 61103. A luncheon and gathering will immediately follow the memorial service.

To celebrate Doug's life, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Toy Car Ministry at Aldersgate UMC, the ALS Association Greater Chicago Chapter, or The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.
