Wayne R. Smith, 90, of Ottawa passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Ottawa Pavilion.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation rites.
Wayne was born October 29, 1928 to Albert and Nell (Moral) Smith and was raised in Marseilles IL. He served in the United States Navy. He met the love of his life, Doris Lamm, who moved to Marseilles from Canton IL, and they were married in 1948. They went on to have seven children. Wayne retired at the age of 55 from Nabisco in Marseilles. He was a member of the Marseilles Methodist Church and was the best provider for his wife and seven children.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father and mother; one brother, Albert Smith; and two sisters, Helen Smith Schank and Velma Smith Stickle. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his daughter, Vicki (George) Swartz; and his great-granddaughter, Chloe Grace Francisco.
Wayne is survived by his remaining six children, Bruce (Mary Lou) Smith of Marseilles, Cindy (Ray) Meglan of Seneca, Jo Nell (late Terry) Drazkowski of Seneca, Mark (Ann) Smith of Marseilles, Kelly (Kelly Sue) Smith of Ottawa, and Kerri (Jay) McNall of Ottawa. Wayne has 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
