Glen M. Walter

Glen M. Walter, 83, formerly of Grand Ridge, passed away Sunday (July 28, 2019) at Ottawa Pavilion.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Grand Ridge Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church with Rev. Anne Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Ridge Cemetery.

Glen was born on November 9, 1935 to Arthur and Edna (Schobert) Walter. He married Jeanette Salz on January 27, 1962. She survives.

Also surviving are son Brian Walter of New Richmond, WI, daughters Brenda Walter of Washington, IL and Briget (Paul) Rivett of Seneca, grandchildren Zachary and Haley Rivett, siblings Harold (Mary Fran) Walter of Peru, Clarence (Betty) Walter of Grand Ridge, Ruth Ann (Gene) Cramer of Stevens Point, WI, Gail (Randy) Bohannon of Tacoma, WA, Alan (Kathie) Walter of Overland Park, KS, Doris (Bob) Mattison of Bettendorf, Iowa and Merle (Linda) Walter of Peru and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Glen attended Grand Ridge Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in 1953. He served in the Air National Guard. Glen retired from farming in the Grand Ridge area after many years. He served as the Farm Ridge Township Supervisor and as a Trustee for almost 50 years. He was active on the Grand Ridge School Board serving as President several of those years. Glen was a member of the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church serving in many roles. He was actively involved with the Grand Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.

After his faith, family and community, Glen's next loves were shenanigans and donuts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church or the Grand Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.
