Train derails near Minooka area plant

'No danger to the public,' fire officials say

A train derailed near Aux Sable Liquid Products near Minooka on Thursday morning.

Minooka fire crews responded about 9 a.m. to South Tabler Road near U.S. 6 for the derailment, according to the Minooka Fire Protection District.

“Our rail logistics crew was moving a set of cars with one of our switcher locomotives. The train did not come to a stop and three tankers derailed through our fence, out the westernmost portion of the property and onto the road,” said Scott Seibert, Aux Sable's manager of environment and government affairs. He said that a fence, part of Tabler Road and a guardrail were damaged.

Aux Sable Liquid employees determined nothing was leaking from the empty cars, the fire district said.

Employees worked with Minooka fire officials, Channahon police and Grundy County Emergency Management to ensure no evacuations were needed.
