E. Richard Shope, 89, of Marble Hill, Mo., died at his home Nov. 16, 2019. Born in Toledo, Illinois, on Sept. 8, 1930, he was the son of Miles and Opel Berniece (Ramey) Shope.
He married Janet May Serby on June 28, 1954, in Sandwich, Illinois. Mr. Shope was a mechanic for most of his life. He owned and operated two service stations in Yorkville, Ill.
Upon retirement he and Janet moved to Marble Hill, MO. He loved to travel, making six trips to Israel and traveling a world-circling, evangelizing trip. He was a member of Grace Fellowship Family Worship Center.
He was an Army veteran who served in Korea during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janet; by two sons: Richard (Analaura) Shope and Mark (Kathi) Shope; by a daughter, Debbie (Bruce) Klotz; by grandchildren: Jason (Monica) Klotz, Brian (Teena) Klotz, Kim (Kalen) Shope-Thornton, Matthew Shope, Sarah Shope, Rachel (Nick) Newsom, and Teresa Shope; by three great-grandchildren: Abby Klotz and Kingston and Karter Thornton; and his beloved dog, Max.He was preceded in death by two brothers: Clarence and Eddie Shope.
Visitation and funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, at Grace Fellowship Family Worship Center near Marble Hill.
Visitation will begin at the church at 10:00 a.m and continue until service time at Noon. Rev. Monnie Jones will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, Mo., at 2:00 p.m.
