Darlene M. (Werdung) McAllister, 101, of Ottawa, formerly of Peru, passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

Private services will be held at the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru with Rev. Carl Hammer, pastor of the First Congregational Church, Peru officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, La Salle.

Mrs. McAllister was born Sept. 13, 1918, in Peru to Mathias and Elvena (Naumann) Werdung. She was a graduate of La Salle-Peru High School. She married Charles McAllister on May 17, 1931, in Ottawa.

Mrs. McAllister was raised in the First Congregational Church in Peru. She was a homemaker and an active volunteer throughout her life. She especially enjoyed her bridge and women’s clubs.

Survivors include five children, Karen Kohn and Lauren Thorsen of Elgin, Michael (Elizabeth) McAllister of Little Rock, Ark., and Claire (James) Orr and Maura McAllister of Ottawa; six grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; one grandson, Edward Kohn; her parents and her brother, Romayne Werdung.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Pet Project in Marseilles.
