Dorothy P. Schmitt, 90, of Streator passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care, Streator.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Rev. Fr. Ryan Mattingly will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be family members.

Born February 23, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan she was the daughter of Joseph and Pauline (Washko) Gallick. She married Wiemer W. Schmitt on September 4, 1948 at St. Stephen's Church, Streator. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1992.

She is survived by a son David (Sue) Schmitt of Streator and a daughter, Ruth Ann (Jay) McGrath of Streator; grandchildren, Amy Schmitt of Mahomet, Gary (Dynae) Schmitt of East Peoria and Ron (Annie) Schmitt of Chicago; great grandchildren, Cayden and Hailey Schmitt; and daughter in laws, Barbara Schmitt, Darla Schmitt and Karen Schmitt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Ken Schmitt; a daughter, Diane in infancy; a grandson, Bradley Schmitt; a brother, Frank Gallick; and sisters, Mary Gayon, Josephine McNew and Marge Freeland.

Dorothy attended St. Stephen's Grade School and St. Hedwig Grade School and High School in Detroit. She returned to the Streator area in 1947.

She worked for Owens Illinois Glass Company in the Selecting Department for many years. She also owned and operated along with her husband Wiemer's Roofing. She was a member of the former St. Stephen's Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church.

She was a member of the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and served as a Pink Lady.

Dorothy loved bowling and belonged to several bowling leagues through the years. She also enjoyed attending Engle Lane Theatre.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice, the Streatorland Historical Society or Light Up Streator.
