Donald J. Corcoran

Died: January 7, 2020

Donald J. Corcoran 78 of Rural Peru, II passed away January 7, 2020 in Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday January 10, 2020 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granville, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am in the church. Father Patrick DeMeulemeester will officiate. Burial will follow in St Columba Cemetery in Ottawa. Helmer-Shields Funeral Home in Granville is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donald was born March 24, 1941 in Ryburn Hospital in Ottawa to Phillip and MaryAngela (Harmon) Corcoran. He married Evelyn Engelbrecht January 20, 1968 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Henry, II. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1994.

Donald graduated from Marquette Academy in Ottawa in 1959. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. In his youth Donald served as a member of the Illinois Army National Guard. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, as well as a truck driver instructor at IVCC, was a lifelong farmer and stockman in the area and was a member of the Illinois Valley Horseman’s Association.

Donald took pride in his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters Donna (Kent) Ellis of Tonica, DeAnn (Brent) Boers of Arlington, four sons Darrell (Lisa) Corcoran of Ottawa, IL, Daniel (Raquel) Corcoran of LaSalle, IL, Dale (Julee) Corcoran of Oglesby, IL, David (Jaclyn) Corcoran of Eariville, IL, eleven grandchildren Ian, Maryn, Justin, Kaitlin, Cody, Katie, Selena, Sheena, Evelyn, Parker and Casen, four great grandchildren with one on the way, his long time companion Patricia Gist, and lifelong friends Carol and Louis Vassen, brother in law Willam (Helen) Engelbrecht and his dog Mandy.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Pallbearers will be Jack Soulsby, Joe Harmon, Kevin Corcoran, Justin Boers, Cody Corcoran and Ian Ellis.
