No one was injured in a two-story home fire northwest of Ottawa Thursday.
Wallace Fire Protection District responded at 1:52 p.m. to 2927 E. 14th Road, and first-arriving firefighters saw smoke coming off the roof of the house. Fire Chief Dave Parrott said firefighters immediately began an "offensive attack" on the fire and opened up the second floor of the structure to discover heavy smoke within.
Firefighters worked at venting the house by poking holes in the top of the roof, releasing additional smoke and heat into the air. They then entered the building to discover the fire extended down to the first floor and basement.
Parrott said it's uncertain at this time where the fire originated, nor did he have an estimate of damages. The fire remains under investigation.
Everyone was out of the home when firefighters arrived, and no one was injured as a result of the fire.
Wallace Fire Protection District was assisted by Ottawa Fire Department, Marseilles Fire Department, Serena Fire Department, Grand Ridge Fire Department and Oglesby Fire Department which took over at the Wallace station.
"Everybody did a good job and we appreciate all the mutual aid companies that came in," Parrott said.
