Streator Plan Commission recommends another Main Street facade grant

Work continues on other Main Street facade grant projects

The west-facing facade at 502 E. Main St., Streator, could get a facelift soon.

The Streator Plan Commission recommended a second facade grant to owner Marilyn Horton during its Tuesday night meeting, which would help pay for new windows and update the look of the building.

Horton already has received a grant for the south-facing portion of the building.

The Plan Commission’s recommendation will move to the City Council for approval at its next meeting 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17.

City Engineer Jeremy Palm reported the upper facade on Grump’s restaurant is complete. Owner John Krasnican plans to renovate the lower facade as well with new windows and updated masonry.

Palm said work on the outside of 200 E. Main St. will begin soon as well. The owners were awarded a facade grant in April to renovate the former Centrue Bank building. Owners want to restore the building to make way for a restaurant.
