Rotary Park’s Celebration of Lights display continues to get bigger — the city is working to make more space for future displays.
La Salle will be adding 2,700 feet of roadway at Rotary Park, allowing more space for displays.
The work was discussed Monday night at the City Council meeting.
The design is complete, and the city expects the contractor to begin work within the next few weeks.
The 2019-2020 Christmas season included 30 new displays and included more than 250 displays in total.
The city is also working toward making a restroom/safe shelter at Rotary Park. As part of that project, city employeees have installed water, sewer and electric for the future restroom/safe shelter.
The city employees are also installing water lines for watering the baseball and soccer fields along with additional electric in areas around the park.
The restroom/safe shelter is part of the larger project the city is planning to create a 4,400-foot walk/run path from Rotary Park to Prairie Lake.
In January, Gov. JB Pritzker’s office announced the city of La Salle would be awarded $400,000 for the project coming from the state’s Open Spaces Land Acquisition and Development funds. The city will contribute $408,500 to the project.
