Somonauk High School students dedicated their Seminar Day on Dec. 10 to the theme of gratitude, with a focus on community service for La Salle County Court Appointed Special Advocate.

As part of the day’s activities, juniors and seniors put together meal packs for Feed My Starving Children.

Freshmen and sophomores participated in a practice ACT and attended three sessions designed to emphasize giving back to the community, including a workshop on the CASA program and a Creating Gifts of Gratitude project.

Students created 25 appreciation bags for CASA volunteers and district staff members. The gifts then will be distributed this season to recognize the efforts of volunteers who advocate for children in the foster care system.

“This partnership is a heartwarming example of how young people can make a profound impact on their community,” said Sally Van Cura, executive director of La Salle County CASA. “The gratitude and care these students are extending to our volunteers and staff are deeply appreciated.

“This focus on gratitude and giving back exemplifies the values we hope to instill in our students,” Somonauk High School Principal Eric Benson said. “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with organizations like La Salle County CASA.”
