Leland 62, Hiawatha 51: At Leland on Tuesday, the host Panthers were victorious in a Little Ten Conference contest, with Geno Schwager’s 28-point, 17-rebound double-double spearheading the attack.
Gunnar Nelson with 15 points and five assists along with Austin Todd with seven points also paced Leland.
Newark 59, Earlville 52: At Earlville, the host Norsemen secured the Little Ten triumph.
Earlville (0-7 overall, 0-2 LTC) was led by Adam Waite’s 21 points and 14 rebounds, 14 points and six assists by Easton Fruit and Grady Harp’s eight points.
Leading Newark were Dylan Long with a game-high 31 points plus six rebounds and four steals. The Norsemen also received nine points apiece courtesy of Payton Wills and Cody Kulbartz and a five-point, six-assist performance from Reggie Chapman.
Serena 71, DePue 32: At DePue, the visiting Huskers (4-2 overall, 1-1 Little Ten) notched the victory led by three players – Beau Raikes (15 points), Payton Twait (14) and Cash Raikes (11) – scoring in double figures.
Blake Hjerpe added seven points and as many rebounds for the victors.
Lexington 67, Woodland 52: At the Warrior Dome in rural Streator, the host Warriors (5-3) fell to old Midstate Conference rival Lexington (6-1), trailing by 15 points at the half.
Connor Dodge had a second consecutive big scoring night for Woodland with 18 points. Nolan Price and Jaron Follmer contributed 15 points each.
Streator 57, Reed-Custer 54: At Braidwood, the visiting Bulldogs led most of the way – including by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter – before having to hold on as the Comets missed a potential tying 3 at the buzzer, closing out Streator’s Illinois Central Eight Conference triumph.
Nolan Lukach poured in 20 points, Matt Williamson had 15 and Blaize Bressner contributed 11 for the Bulldogs, now 5-1 overall and 2-0 on the ICE loop heading into Friday’s home opener against Coal City.
Flanagan-Cornell 70, Midland 51: At rural Varna, the visiting Falcons picked up a nonconference victory led by 21-point performances by both Logan Ruddy and Connor Reed.
Fieldcrest 47, Princeton 43: At Hall’s Colmone Classic, the Knights prevailed to move to 3-0 on the season. Jordan Heider’s 14 points and 12 from Eddie Lorton paced Fieldcrest.
Girls basketball
FCW 59, Earlville 22: At Flanagan, the host Falcons dominated in a nonconference victory despite eights points apiece scored by Earlville’s Bailey Miller and Natalie Hall.
Boys wrestling
Streator 54, Dwight 11; GCMS 56, Streator 10: At Gibson City, the Bulldogs defeated Dwight propelled by contested wins from Jesus Martinez (138 pounds), Devin Thompson (190) and Sebastian Flores (120). Thompson (190) and Ved Chaudhari (113) scored wins versus Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.
Seneca 76, Wilmington 6: At Wilmington, the visiting Fighting Irish dominated to move to 4-0. Scoring contested victories were Jeremy Gagnon (285 pounds), Alex Gagnon (175), Gunner Varland (157), Chase Rod (150), Parker Jones (144), Avery Phillips (138), Wyatt Coop (120) and Raiden Terry (113).
Girls wrestling
Streator pair score victories: At Gibson City, Streator 115-pounders Addison Yacko and Lily Gwaltney both captured pinfall victories in a triangular with Dwight and the host Falcons.
Seneca quartet triumphant: Against Plano, four Fighting Irish wrestlers – Brooklyn Hart (115), Haven Nicolaides (120), Catalina Pacheco (135) and Haiden Lavarier (140) – notched wins, all coming via pinfall.
Ottawa notches pair of wins: At Kingman Gym against Kankakee, Ottawa’s Evy Grady and Alivia Butler both scored victories.
