Peru Pizza House closes

Business had been open for almost 50 years

The Voluntary Action Center of Northern Illinois, which operates Meals on Wheels, soon will have a new place to call home as CEO Nate Kloster announced the organization’s purchase of the Peru Pizza House.

After 47 years, the Peru Pizza House served its last slice of pizza Thursday.

“We are deeply grateful to our customers for their unwavering support throughout the years,” the business said in a statement on its social media. “While our chapter has come to a close, we are heartened to know that the spirit of service lives on.”

The building was sold to the Volunteer Action Center of Northern Illinois, which operates Meals on Wheels. Meals on Wheels delivers meals to individuals age 60 and older who are homebound.

At a November Peru City Council meeting, CEO Nate Kloster said the organization has outgrown its space in La Salle at the former John’s North Star. It purchased the Pizza House at 1702 Fourth St. for $450,000.

“It brings us great joy to see the space dedicated to fostering connection and care once more,” the business said. “Thank you for being part of our story.”
