Pool crossover play in the Colmone Classic started Thursday night at Hall High School with St. Bede, Kewanee and IVC coming out on top to improve their final game placement.
St. Bede 71, Bureau Valley 61: The Bruins defeated the Storm in a pool crossover game to earn the right to play for the ninth-place game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday against IVC.
Kaden Nauman had 18 points, Halden Hueneburg had 17 and Kaden Newman added 15 points for the Bruins.
The Storm, who will face Putnam County in the 11th-place game at noon Saturday, was led by Landon Hulsing with 20 points and Elijah Endress with 12 points.
In other games Thursday, Kewanee beat Mendota 57-52 while IVC toppled, Putnam County 62-36.
Girls basketball
St. Bede 45, Henry-Senachwine 42: Lili McClain and Ashlyn Ehm scored 12 points and Ava Balestri chipped in 10 to lead the Bruins to a Tri-County Conference victory on the Academy hardwood.
For the Mallards, Brynna Anderson and Rachel Eckert each had 12 points, Lauren Harbison had eight points and Kaitlyn Anderson added six points and 10 rebounds.
Brown County 31, Spring Valley JFK 28: The Wildcats led 17-12 at halftime, but couldn’t hang on in the IESA Class 2A 7th-grade State Championship game at Riverton High School on Thursday.
Yazlin Mandujano led JFK (27-2) with 16 points with Yazlin Mandujano adding six, Miracle Wright five and Brynn Pellegrini three.
