The village of Dana Police Department recently received $1,500 for police body cameras from the Starved Rock Country Community Foundation.

The community grant allows Dana police to comply with a Jan. 1 state mandate requiring that police wear body cams on any police matter including traffic stops, ordinance violations or interviews.

“It is a challenge for our small department and small village (with a population of 175) to stay in compliance. Our financial resources are so limited,” longtime Dana Village President Joseph Centeno said. “These mandates strain our budget, so we are grateful to SRCCF for this award. [The] Starved Rock Country Community Foundation was a godsend.”

Dana Deputy Chief Andrei Robu applied for the grant on behalf of Dana Police Chief Matt Schell.
