Seneca 67, Midland 41: At Seneca, the Fighting Irish improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in Tri-County Conference play with the win over the Timberwolves.

Paxton Giertz poured in 30 points to lead Seneca, with Brayden Simek adding eight points, Cam Shriey seven points and Sebastian Deering six points.

“We played well in stretches but we need to sustain those stretches longer,” Seneca coach Russ Witte said. “Midland is a scrappy bunch that got after it and did some things well.”

Serena 76, Leland 61: At Serena, the Huskers ran to a 54-24 halftime lead in the Little Ten Conference triumph over the Panthers.

Beau Raikes netted 22 points and Payton Twait 20 points to lead Serena (6-4, 3-1). Blake Hjerpe added 17 points and Cash Raikes 10 points for the hosts.

Somonauk 60, LaMoille-Ohio 33: At Somonauk, the Bobcats rolled to the LTC win over the Lions.

Weston Hannibal had 15 points, including 7 of 7 from the free throw line, and Brock Sexton 13 points to lead Somonauk.

Fieldcrest 44, Eureka 39: At Minonk, the Knights picked up the Heart of Illinois Conference win over the rival Hornets.

Ed Lorton led all scorers with 20 points for Fieldcrest, with Braden Hahn adding eight points and Layten Gerdes seven points.

Girls basketball

Streator 47, Newark 38: At the Ottawa Holiday Tournament in Kingman Gym, the Bulldogs — who earned their first win of the season — led 11-10 after one quarter, 25-19 at halftime and 38-23 heading to the fourth in the win over the Norsemen.

Ava Gwaltney fired in 17 points to lead Streator (1-14), while Audrey Arambula added nine points, Leah Krohe eight points and Maddy Martin seven points.

Dwight 45, Somonauk/Leland 25: At Dwight, the Bobcats fell on the road to the Trojans.
