Princeton accepts $177,302 bid for Marion Street storm sewer project

Bid comes in more than $60,000 than estimated

The Princeton City Council accepted on Dec. 16 a bid of $177,302 from Ski Seal Coating and Maintenance of La Salle to complete work on the Marion Street storm sewer project.

The bid was lower than the city’s estimate of $241,570.

Princeton City Manager Theresa Wittenauer said Ski will begin the project based on their schedule, and may start as soon as this winter, if the weather remains mild.

East Marion Street in the Lincoln School neighborhood has been torn up for months as the city replaces the sanitary sewer. The street will not be repaved until after the storm sewer project is completed, Wittenauer said. A sanitary sewer project, which is grant funded, wrapped up, and the storm sewer portion of the project, expected to bring relief from flooding for the neighborhood’s residents, is the next phase. The storm sewer portion of the project had to be kept separate because there was grant funding involved, Wittenauer has said previously.

The storm sewer portion of the project is not grant funded. Wittenauer said the city will utilize funds from the Amtrak depot improvement project. That work came in under budget, allowing the extra money to be utilized for the sewer project.
