Icelandic tradition encourages book lovers to get cozy, read

An Icelandic tradition will make its way Monday to Reddick Library in Ottawa.

From 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, seventh through 12th grade students are invited to take part in Jolabokaflod (yo-luh-boh-kuh-flowed) festivities. Bring a book or grab one from the library’s shelves and get cozy in the community room with friends, hot chocolate and treats.

The library will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24, Wednesday, Dec. 25, Tuesday, Dec. 31, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, for the holidays.

12 to 12:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27: New Year’s at Noon, kindergartner through third grades. Celebrate the New Year early by creating party wear, making crafts and playing games.

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28: The Loop Group, adults. Learn to knit or crochet in a friendly environment with knowledgeable people.

10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30: Parachute Play, preschool through second grades. Play games and sing songs while using a giant parachute.
