Reddick library in Ottawa to distribute cozy kit

Reddick Library in Ottawa

Reddick Public Library in Ottawa will feature a hygge themed kit for adult patrons the week of Jan. 6.

Hygge is the Danish word that describes a feeling of contentedness and coziness. This month’s kit tries to capture that feeling by providing activities, recipes and a packet of hot chocolate. Kits will be available as supplies last and are limited to one per patron.

10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6: Story Time at the Woodlands, all ages. Join the library at Nell’s Woodland for a nature-themed story time. Enjoy stories, music and crafts followed by a short hike through the park. Register in person at Reddick Library or call 815-434-0509. This event is for children of all ages.

10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7: Ready, Set, Read!, ages 3 to 6. Join the library for a fun story time featuring music, movement activities, singalongs, literacy games, crafts and stories.

4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7: Teen DIY, seventh through 12th grades. Try one of the library’s DIY projects. This month the library will be leading painting wooden decor squares.

10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8: Shake, Rattle, Read!, 9 to 36 months. Sing, dance, craft and create priceless memories at this fun interactive story time planned especially for the younger crowd.

4 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8: DIY Winter Snow Globes, third through sixth grades. Keep winter alive year-round by designing and creating winter-themed snow globe.

7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8: Wednesday Evening Book Group, adults. “The Frozen Riverby” by Ariel Lawhon will be discussed at this patron-led book group.

7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9: Past, Present & Future with Steve Dolinsky: Illinois Libraries Present, virtual program. Steve Dolinsky is a well-known Food Guy reporter at NBC 5 (Chicago) and James Beard Award winner for his TV, radio and podcast work. He is host of the The Feed Podcast with Chicago chef/restaurateur Rick Bayless and Pizza City. He is the creator of Pizza City Fest, now in four cities, and author of two books about pizza. Join him to dish on “The Ultimate Chicago Pizza Guide: A History of Squares & Slices in the Windy City,” his comprehensive guide to the styles, locales and people that make the Windy City a prime destination for slices and pies. Enjoy free samples, while exploring a brief history of tea, discovering how to cultivate a mindful tea practice, and enhancing your connection to plants with Rene Parks from Kankakee Tea Company. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11: Loop Group, adults. Learn to knit and crochet in a fun environment from knowledgeable people. Everyone is welcome to join in.
