The Streator Fire Department quickly extinguished a storage building fire at 609 E. Hickory St. early Monday morning.

The fire department was alerted at 7:41 a.m. after a resident saw smoke coming from the building and walked the short distance to the fire station to alert crews.

Upon arriving, firefighters found smoke coming from the eaves, doors and vents of the 60-foot, by 40-foot storage building.

The fire was brought under control in less than 5 minutes, the fire department said. The cause was determined to be electrical, caused by a pinched extension cord.

No injuries were reported and the building had minor damage.

A total of 11 firefighters responded to the scene, assisted by Vermilion Valley Dispatch, Streator Police Department and ComEd.
