Police chief retires Wednesday

Retiring Ottawa Police Chief Brent Roalson thanks his fellow officers for their service at the Ottawa City Council meeting Tuesday.

After 28 years of service to the Ottawa Police Department, Police Chief Brent Roalson retired Wednesday, signing off one last time, giving a thumbs up and exiting his car to an applause from family and friends.

“It’s been my honor for the last 28 years to serve the citizens of Ottawa, and protect and serve them along some of the finest men and women in law enforcement,” Roalson said to dispatch signing off. “Stay the mission. Keep everybody safe, continue the practice of being compassionate and do what we do. Stay safe everyone, I’ll be 10-42.”

Ottawa Central Dispatch responded.

“Chief Roalson’s career has spanned nearly three decades, consisting of unwavering commitment, service and leadership to the Ottawa Police Department and to the citizens of Ottawa, Illinois. On behalf of all of all of us at the Ottawa Police Department we want to wish you a safe and healthy retirement. Good luck in your future. It is our honor to announce that Ottawa Police Chief Brent Roalson, Badge No. 17, you are officially retired.”
