Tony’s Barbershop in Peru is under new ownership.
Rene Alfaro purchased the barbershop at 815 Peoria St. from Lori Keenan, who retired.
A grand opening is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday.
Alfaro received her license in 2007 at Educators of Beauty and has been cutting hair for 18 years.
“I pride myself in cutting for the whole family, but over time I noticed a lack of connection with customers,” Alfaro said. “I wanted a shop of my own where customers can become friends. I worked for corporate salons and for the longest time I wanted to have a place of my own to do just that.”
She met Keenan last summer through a lifelong customer of Keenan’s. After vetting Alfaro for the job, Keenan trusted her to continue the legacy of Tony’s Barbershop, she said.
“I am living a dream come true alongside my husband, Victor, who helps me manage our shop,” she said. “My goal is to continue taking care of all existing customers and new with great pride and treat everyone like family when they visit us here,” she said.
Tony’s Barbershop is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. For an appointment, call 815-223-7258. Walk-ins are welcome.
