Agency saves clients $4 million during Medicare Open Enrollment

Agency serves region including La Salle, Bureau, Putnam counties

Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging and its Community Focal Points in its 10-county area, which includes La Salle, Bureau, Putnam, Henderson, Henry, Knox, McDonough, Mercer, Rock Island and Warren counties, saved its clients a total of $4,338,014 during this year’s Medicare Open Enrollment.

There were 11 counseling sites, 33 counselors and 1,259 clients with savings.

The agency said it ensures coordinated, accessible services for older people to live independent, meaningful and dignified lives. Its community focal points in each county that are senior centers serve as congregate meal sites as well as areas for seniors to go for activities and socialization. The agency advocates at local, state and federal levels for seniors and adults with disabilities. WIAAA also funds Home Delivered Meal programs, transportation as well as respite for caregivers. WIAAA is a certified SHIP site and counselors are available to provide information and direct assistance regarding Medicare, Medicare D plans, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicaid, etc.

“We focus on dedication and commitment to ensure older adults receive unbiased counseling,” the agency said in a news release. “This allows beneficiaries to make the choice that is best for them.”
