Streator closed out a grant project that funded the rehabilitation of 11 homes.
The Streator City Council held a special meeting Wednesday to close out the Community Development Block Grant.
The project was funded through a $550,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, with an additional $20,000 in local funds from Streator.
The grant allowed the city to rehabilitate the 11 homes, improving living conditions for residents and bringing substandard housing into compliance with city codes. Ten out of the 11 homes had been fully completed, with one project still in progress.
No residents were displaced during the project, and the rehabilitation activities directly benefited low and moderate income families.
The grant funds were managed by a contractor hired by the city to handle the project. The $30,000 cost for grant administration, construction and inspection was covered as part of the total project cost.
No Streator residents attended the hearing so no public comments were made, and the grant was closed with a unanimous vote by the City Council.
City records related to the grant project are available for review at Streator City Hall and the North Central Illinois Council of Government office in Ottawa, which is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
