The Peru City Council approved a $175,000 contribution to the TBM Avenger and Salute to Veterans Show.
This year will mark the 10th anniversary for the city’s “signature event” and the largest gathering of TBM Avengers in the country.
Alderman Jim Lukosus said the highlight of the show this year will be Team Viper, a F-16 demonstration group of active duty Air Force airmen who perform aerial maneuvers.
“They put on quite a show,” he said. “Show you what that aircraft is capable of doing.”
Lukosus said the only unfortunate aspect is the airmen cannot base the aircraft in Peru — as the city doesn’t have a resting system so the team will be flying out of Peoria.
“They will perform both days of the show,” he said.
Alderman Tom Payton said the show was a tremendous event for the city and for the 10-year anniversary the city is selling a commemorative license plate for $50. All a person needs to bring to purchase one is their registration and their driver’s license.
For those looking to volunteer, go to https://tbmreunion.org/volunteer. The event will be May 16-17 at the Illinois Valley Regional Airport in Peru.
Lukosus said the event is free to the public thanks to the city’s donation.
“Come with your family, bring your friends,” he said. “Enjoy the show.”
