Ella Derossett breaks FCW’s scoring record; Marquette, Seneca make TCC title game: The Times Wednesday Roundup

Girls basketball

Tri-Point 53, FCW 50: At the Warrior Dome in rural Streator, host Flanagan-Cornell/Woodland lost to its former Midstate Conference rival, but senior Ella Derossett set a new program record for career scoring, putting in 23 to bring her running varsity total to 1,495.

Aubry Edens added 15 points, with Emma Palaschak – who assisted the layup that gave Derossett the record – adding a half dozen points.

The loss drops the Falcons to 7-15 on the season.

Earlville 47, Alden-Hebron 21: At Earlville, the host Red Raiders triumphed, paced by an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double put in by Audrey Scherer.

Bailey Miller (11 points, six rebounds) and Kyley Helgesen (four points, six rebounds) also led Earlville.

Boys basketball

Seneca 81, Lowpoint-Washburn 62: At the 98th Tri-County Tournament hosted by Putnam County, the top-seeded Fighting Irish dispatched No. 5 Lowpoint-Washburn led by a 35-point effort from reigning Times Athlete of the Week Paxton Giertz.

Brady Sheedy added 19 points for victorious Seneca, with Grant Siegel scoring eight.

Seneca faces Marquette at 8 p.m. Friday for the championship.

Marquette 63, Roanoke-Benson 42: At the 98th Tri-County Tournament hosted by Putnam County, the sixth-seeded Crusaders (12-11) pulled off their second straight upset, earning a berth in Friday’s 8 p.m. championship game with the win over No. 2 Roanoke-Benson.

Junior guard Alec Novotney poured in a game-best 26 points to lead Marquette Academy, with Griffin Dobberstein adding 13 more. Lucas Craig pitched in seven, with Luke McCullough scoring six.

Plano 68, Serena 45: At Plano, the visiting Huskers trailed by 11 by the halftime break of a nonconference defeat.

Beau Raikes scored 18 points, with Carter Meyer and Cash Raikes contributing eight apiece in the loss.

Boys wrestling

Reed-Custer 44, Sandwich 37: At Sandwich, the host Indians lost to their former Interstate 8 Conference rivals despite contested wins from Colten Stone (132 pounds), Cooper Corder (144), Joshua Kotalik (150), Josh Lehman (157), Kai Kern (175), Kaden Clevenger (190) and Devon Blanchard (285).

Mendota 41, Streator 30: At Mendota, the visiting Bulldogs lost to the hosts.

Girls bowling

Ottawa 2,746, Streator 2,508: At Detorre’s Town Lanes, the host Pirates outrolled the Bowlin' Bulldogs led by senior Ana Zeglis' 524 series (189 high game) and Kilah Figenbaum’s 519 (200). Payton Bruck added a 200 game.
