Putnam County defeated Kewanee Wethersfield 35-33 to capture their own IESA Class 2A seventh-grade regional championship on Tuesday, Jan. 28. The Pumas advance to sectionals at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 to face host Joliet Laraway. The Putnam County Pumas jumped out to a 19-8 and held on for a 35-33 win over Kewanee Wethersfield to capture their own IESA Class 2A seventh-grade regional boys basketball championship on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Brennen McDonald led the Pumas with 10 points and Nolan Weddel and Luke Gabrielse added nine each.
The Pumas beat Oglesby Washington 41-14 in the regional semifinals
PC (17-2) advanced to the Joliet Sectionals on Monday, Feb. 3 to face host Joliet Laraway (14-5), which beat Serena 34-25 at Seneca.
Davis Carlson received the Sportsmanship Award with Wethersfield’s Grant Nelson.
