Reddick library to offer ground cardamom kit with recipes

Reddick Public Library in Ottawa will be offering a kit for adult patrons that will contain a free sample of ground cardamom along with recipes

Kits will be available the week of Feb. 3 as supplies last and are limited to one per patron.

10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3: Story Time at the Woodlands, all ages. Join the library at Nell’s Woodland for a nature-themed story time. Enjoy stories, music, and crafts followed by a short hike through the park. Register in person at Reddick Library or call 815-434-0509. This event is for children of all ages.

10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4: Ready, Set, Read! ages 3 to 6 years. Join the library for a fun story time featuring music, movement activities, singalongs, literacy games, crafts and stories.

2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4: Scams, Schemes, and Financial Predators, adults. The Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Northern Illinois will host an informative session focused on preventing scammers from turning you into a statistic. This session will also cover how to recognize emails and phone calls aimed at taking your hard-earned money.

7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4: An Evening with James McBride: Illinois Libraries Present James McBride is an award-winning author, musician and screenwriter. His landmark memoir, “The Color of Water,” was published in 1996 and is considered an American classic, read in schools and universities across the United States. His 2013 novel, “The Good Lord Bird,” won the National Book Award for Fiction and was adapted by Ethan Hawke and Jason Blum into a Showtime series bearing the same name. His latest, “The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store,” was named one of the New York Times’ 100 Notable Books of 2023. Heather Marie-Montlilla of PBS Books will join McBride in conversation. 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5: Shake, Rattle, Read! 9 to 36 months. Sing, dance, craft and create priceless memories at this fun interactive story time planned especially for the younger crowd.

4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5: Palentine’s Day, seventh through 12th grades. Get into the spirit of Valentine’s Day. Make a valentine craft to gift or to keep while snacking on some sweet treats.

4 to 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6: Snow Science, kindergarten through second grade. Learn the science behind snow as we create a snowstorm in jar and build an igloo.

1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8: Loop Group, adults. Learn to knit and crochet in a fun environment from knowledgeable people. Everyone is welcome to join in.
