Driver hits Utica ambulance at ‘high rate of speed’ in Ottawa

Witness tells police driver struck ambulance without slowing down, according to report

A Utica ambulance was involved in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning on Norris Drive in Ottawa when police said a driver failed to yield for its lights and sirens.

The driver of a Grand Cherokee was traveling at a high rate of speed at 7:25 a.m. Monday and continued through the intersection at East Norris Drive and Columbus Street with a green light and struck the Utica Ambulance on its driver’s side door, Ottawa police said in an accident report. The driver told police they didn’t see the ambulance.

The ambulance driver told police they noticed the red light before slowly entering the intersection with the lights and siren sounding, according to the report.

A witness told police they saw the driver hit the ambulance at a high rate of speed without slowing down, according to the report.

No injuries were reported.
