BCR Sports Editor Kevin Hieronymus projects the seeds and regional fields for the Class 2A Rock Falls girls subsectional A and the Class 1A Hinckley-Big Rock girls subsectional B. Seeds will be announced by the IHSA around 4 p.m. Thursday with the regional pairings to follow Friday.
2A Rock Falls Subsectional
Projected seeds
1) Alleman (21-7) - Pioneers are defending regional champions, losing to eventual state champion Peoria Notre Dame in the Bureau Valley Sectional finals. The Pioneers have defeated Riverdale (48-42) and Princeton (60-35).
2) Riverdale (18-8) - The Rams are 5-1 against the field, including a win over Princeton (54-43) with the lone loss to Alleman last week.
3) Princeton (16-9) - The Tigresses have lost to Alleman, Riverdale and Hall (OT), swept Erie-Prophetstown and Mendota to stand 4-3 against the field with a game left with Hall tonight. PHS has more favorable matchups against TRAC East foes Kewanee and Newman than Hall, which should get it the 3.
4) Hall (16-10) - The Devils beat Princeton in overtime, swept E-P and Mendota for 4-1 record against the field. Have won two of its last three games heading into Thursday’s game at PHS. The win over the Tigresses could be enough to bump them ahead of PHS.
5) Sandwich (11-13) - Indians are 3-0 against the field with a sweep over Somonauk-Leland and a win over Rock Falls.
6) Oregon (10-14) - Hawks are 3-0 against the field with two wins over Morrison, one over Rock Falls.
7) Bureau Valley (10-18) - The Storm stand 4-4 against the field with two losses to Hall and one to Riverdale. BV split with E-P and has beaten Rock Falls, Morrison and Mendota.
8) Somonauk-Leland (12-16) - The Bobcats have lost to the only sectional team it has faced, Sandwich.
9) Erie-Prophetstown (5-17) - The Panthers have the most sectional matchups of any team in the field, standing 4-6, including a split with BV.
10) Morrison (4-23) - The Mustangs have won four of their last five games and are boosted by the return all-time leading scorer Camryn Veltrop.
11) Rock Falls (3-24) - The Rockets are 0-4 against other subsectional teams.
12) Mendota (3-21) - The Trojans are winless in five games against subsectional teams.
Projected regionals: Host Princeton will draw No. 2 Riverdale, No. 5 Sandwich, No. 7 Bureau Valley, No. 8 Somonauk-Leland, No. 12 Mendota. The E-P Regional will draw No. 1 Alleman, No. 4 Hall, No. 6 Oregon, No. 9 E-P, No. 10 Morrison, No. 11 Rock Falls
1A Hinckley-Big Rock Subsectional B
Projected seeds
1) Serena (22-6) - The Huskers are 7-1 against sectional teams, including a sweep over Marquette and an overtime win over St. Bede (57-53). The lone loss came Wednesday, falling to Yorkville Christian 47-43.
2) Ottawa Marquette (20-9) - The Crusaders are 7-2 against the sectional field, taking two of three from St. Bede and defeating Yorkville Christian (64-57).
3) Yorkville Christian (17-7) - Wednesday’s win over Serena may have earned the Mustangs the No. 3 seed. They are 3-0 against the field, also defeating Earlville and Indian Creek.
4) St. Bede (17-12) - The Bruins have beaten Putnam County twice, and after losing twice to Marquette, beat the Crusaders for the Tri-County Tournament title. The Bruins could sneak away with the 3 seed. St. Bede beat Serena for last year’s sectional title and took fourth at state.
5) Hinckley-Big Rock (13-8) - The Royals are 6-2 against the field with both losses to Serena.
6) Ashton-Franklin Center (8-19) - The Raiders have lost their only game against sectional team, falling to HBR.
7) Indian Creek (6-10) - IC is 3-4 against sectional teams, with a pair of wins over Earlville by an average of 26 points and two losses to Serena.
8) Earlville (9-20) - The Raiders are 3-3 against the sectional field, including a split with Newark, but two losses to IC.
9) Gardner-South Wilmington (5-21) - GSW beat the only sectional team it has faced, Newark
10) Putnam County (5-22) - The Panthers have lost twice to Serena and defeated Newark. The Panthers have lost six straight.
11) Newark (2-23) - The Norsemen have lost to six different sectional teams, splitting with Earlville.
Projected regionals: At St. Bede - This promises to be a rematch of last year’s sectional finals with No. 1 coming to the St. Bede Regional to be paired with the No. 4 Bruins. They will be joined by No. 6 AFC, No. 8 Earlville, No. 9 GSW, No. 10 PC. At Indian Creek - No. 2 Marquette will be joined by No. 3 Yorkville Christian, No. 5 HBR, No. 7 IC and No. 11 Newark.
