Boys wrestling
Ottawa sends 2, Streator 1 on to sectionals: At the Class 2A Kaneland Sectional concluded Saturday in Maple Park, Ottawa (26.5 team points) placed seventh in the team standings and Streator (28) sixth in the seven-team field, with Yorkville Christian (240.5) claiming the team regional title.
The Pirates advanced two and Streator one to next weekend’s Washington Individual Sectional.
For Ottawa, Wes Weatherford (190 pounds) placed third with a 3-1 record, capturing a 21-3 technical fall in the win-and-in third-place match against L-P’s Caeden Small. Giovanni Hernandez (113) also advanced with a third-place finish, while Owen Kearfott (175) just missed, going 1-2 and finishing fourth.
For the Bulldogs, Jesus Martinez (132 pounds) was the runner-up after a 2-1 day, falling by technical fall in the championship match but still punching his ticket for Washington. Adam Westerhold (285) went 2-2 and just missed the cut with a fourth-place finish.
Girls basketball
Somonauk/Leland 53, Richmond-Burton 43: At Somonauk, the Bobcats got the Saturday nonconference win thanks to 45% shooting.
Leah Norris (19 points, 15 rebounds) posted a double-double, for the Bobcats, with Kiley Mason (15 points, four assists), Macey Kinney (nine points) and Abby Hohmann (10 rebounds, four assists) also pacing the victors.
Boys basketball
Sandwich 67, Richmond-Burton 63: At Sandwich, the host Indians (16-11 overall, 9-2 KRC) notched the Kishwaukee River Conference triumph led by a career-best 35-point performance, plus seven rebounds, from Dom Rome.
Simeion Harris (nine points, five assists), Diego Gomez (eight points) and Griffin Somlock (five points, five assists) also led Sandwich.
Normal U-High 52, Fieldcrest 49: At Minonk, the host Knights had a 3-point heave at the buzzer rim out to end the nonconference loss.
Eddie Lorton scored 18 for Fieldcrest.
Girls track and field
Carlson gets win in Cupid’s Arrow: At Plainfield South’s Cupid’s Arrow Indoor Meet, Newark’s Tess Carlson won the pole vault with a jump of 3.07 meters at meet filled with Class 3A schools, while Addison Ness was runner-up in the triple jump, traversing 10.21 meters.
