ImpactLife provides blood to more than 100 hospitals

A firefighter donates blood during the third annual Jake Keltner Memorial Blue Blood Drive on Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at the Sage YMCA. McHenry County sheriff's Deputy Jacob Keltner was killed in the line of duty serving an arrest warrant in March 2019 in Rockford. All 230 appointments to donate blood were filled this year.

OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center will host a community blood drive with ImpactLife, the provider of blood components for local hospitals.

The blood drive will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, inside Meeting Room 1 at 1100 E. Norris Drive, Ottawa.

To donate, contact ImpactLife Peoria at 800-747‑5401 or visit www.bloodcenter.org and use code 3562 to locate the drive.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission form available through www.bloodcenter.org) and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo ID is required to donate. Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour, OSF said in a news release. Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure may be accepted as eligible donors.
