One goal St. Bede’s Maddy Fabish set for herself at the beginning of the season was to win the Cavalier Classic.
She checked that goal off the list, edging Rochelle’s Cassidy Vincent by one pin with a 1,191 six-game series. Earlier in the week, Fabish rolled a 563 series to help the Bruins beat Hall.
“I can’t say enough good things about her work ethic and dedication to bowling,” St. Bede coach Buck Emmerling said. “She spends countless hours trying to perfect her game. She also spends a great amount of time trying to share the game she loves with her friends and teammates. I’m very proud of her and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for her in the future. I know she will do more great things.”
For her performance, Fabish was voted the NewsTribune Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Sullivan’s and Grasser’s Plumbing & Heating.
Fabish answered some questions from NewsTribune sports editor Kevin Chlum.
When did you start bowling and how did you get into it?
Fabish: I have been bowling for about as long as I can remember. I really started taking it seriously about six years ago. Both my parents and my brother bowl, so my passion came from them.
What do you enjoy about bowling?
Fabish: I enjoy being able to compete as an individual and as a team. There are not very many sports you can do that with.
What makes you a good bowler?
Fabish: I am a good bowler because of the flexibility I have on the lanes. Being able to play every area is huge for anyone.
Besides the Super Bowl, where is your favorite place to bowl?
Fabish: Besides the Super Bowl, I really enjoy bowling at Pin Splitter Lanes in Princeton.
What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Fabish: My favorite Christmas movie is ‘Home Alone.’
What is the best gift you ever received for Christmas?
Fabish: The best Christmas gift was definitely tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.
When coming home from a road match, where do you like to stop to eat and what do you get?
Fabish: If we are around a Canes, that is my first place to go. I get the three chicken finger combo with extra Canes sauce.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Fabish: If I could travel anywhere, I’d choose Rome because I want to see the Colosseum.
What is your favorite subject in school and why?
Fabish: My favorite subject is chemistry. I love to be able to experiment.
What are your thoughts on your individual performance last week?
Fabish: My individual performance last week was not to the top of my ability, but I still believe I performed strong to represent my coaches and the Lady Bruins well.
