L-P boys bowling team advances to sectional: Friday’s NewsTribune roundup

BOYS BOWLING

At Channahon: La Salle-Peru placed third in the Minooka Regional to advance as a team to next week’s Alton Marquette Sectional.

The Cavaliers racked up 5,296 pins to finish behind Minooka (6,128) and Bradley-Bourbonnais (5,551). Kankakee (5,196) placed fourth to earn the final team spot.

St. Bede (4,860) finished sixth. Hall-Putnam County (3,938) was 11th.

Emerson Vasquez led the Cavs as he placed sixth with a 1,184 six-game series. Also for L-P, Grady Sandor (1,134) finished 11th, Marquis Lorenzi (1,018) was 16th and Zach Quick (987) was 27th.

St. Bede’s Haiden Ator qualified as an individual, as he placed 10th with a 1,134, while Fieldcrest’s Colin McKay also advanced by finishing 15th with a 1,018.

At DeKalb: Mendota juniors Paxton Bauer and Alex Holland advanced out of the Kaneland Regional at Mardi Gras Lanes.

Bauer rolled a 1,244 six-game series to place eighth overall. He was the top individual qualifier not on one of the four advancing teams.

Holland placed 15th with a 1,172 series.

The two Trojans bowlers will compete in the Oregon Sectional on Saturday, Jan. 25.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Earlville 58, DePue 26: Adam Waite scored 21 points to eclipse 1,000 for his career to help the Red Raiders to a Little Ten Conference victory in DePue.

He also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished our five assists for Earlville (6-14, 4-3 LTC), while Gavin Guelde scored 20 points. Landen Tirevold added eight points.

Mendota 49, Kewanee 47: The Trojans edged the Boilermakers in a Three Rivers Conference East Division game in Mendota.

Fieldcrest 60, Deer Creek-Mackinaw 52: Eddie Lorton scored 23 points to lead the Knights to a Heart of Illinois Conference victory in Minonk.

Bureau Valley 75, Knoxville 40: The Storm earned a Lincoln Trail Conference victory in Manlius.

Newman 71, Hall 49: Greyson Bickett hit four 3-pointers to score a team-best 12 points as the Red Devils lost in a Three Rivers Conference East Division game in Sterling.

Lowpoint-Washburn 53, Henry-Senachwine 48: The Mallards lost a Tri-County Conference game in Washburn.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Henry-Senachwine 40, Lowpoint-Washburn 9: Kaitlyn Anderson had 17 points, four rebounds and two steals as the Mallards rolled to a Tri-County Conference victory in Washburn.

Brynna Anderson had eight points, three rebounds and two steals for Henry, while Lauren Harbison contributed four points, nine steals and two rebounds.

WRESTLING

At Kewanee: Princeton picked up a pair of Three Rivers Conference victories, beating Kewanee 41-35 and Monmouth-Roseville 62-9.
