Mendota’s Paxton Bauer qualifies for state bowling: Saturday’s NewsTribune roundup

BOYS BOWLING

At Oregon: Mendota junior Paxton Bauer rolled a 1,349 six-game series at the Oregon Sectional to earn a trip to next weekend’s state tournament at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon.

Bauer placed fourth overall.

At Alton: Bowlers from La Salle-Peru and St. Bede saw their seasons end at the Alton Marquette Sectional.

La Salle-Peru’s Emerson Vasquez tied for 14th with a 1,284 six-game series, while teammate Aiden McCray was 30th with a 1,208.

The Cavaliers placed seventh as a team with 5,792 pins. Alton won with 6,247.

St. Bede’s Haiden Ator tied for 21st with a 1,247.

BOYS SWIMMING

At La Salle: La Salle-Peru co-op’s Tucker Ditchfield placed second individually Saturday in the L-P Pentathlon to help the Cavaliers to the team title.

The Cavs tallied 13,385 points to beat Metamora (13,370).

Ditchfield racked up 3,606 points to finish behind Metamora’s Ethan Stone (3,886). He won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.76.

Also for L-P, Bo Weitl (3,355) placed fourth, Caleb Strand (3,252) was fifth and Jonathan Neu (3,172) was sixth.

GIRLS BOWLING

At Channahon: La Salle-Peru racked up 5,383 pins to place fourth in the Minooka Invitational at Channahon Lanes.

L-P senior Anna Ricci rolled the highest game of the day with a 279 and placed seventh individually with a 1,196 six-game series.

BOYS WRESTLING

At LeRoy: Four Princeton wrestlers won their brackets at the Randy Bowman Invitational to help the Tigers to a second-place finish in the team standings.

Princeton scored 172 points to finish behind Oregon (205).

Kane Dauber (132 pounds), Ace Christiansen (144), Casey Etheridge (165) and Cade Odell (285) all won titles.

Dauber defeated Oregon’s Nelson Benesh by 9-6 decision in the title match, Christiansen pinned Warrnsburg-Latham’s Charlie Wittmer in the final, Etheridge won by 15-7 major decision over Shelbyville’s Ryne Peavler in the title match, and Odell edged LeRoy’s Tate Sigler by 4-2 decision to claim the title.

Also for Princeton, Jaydon Cooke (126) placed third, Augustus Swanson (120) finished fourth, and Ian Morris (215) took sixth.

At Orion: St. Bede’s Michael Benge placed third at 113 pounds at Orion’s Bob Mitton Invitational.

Benge pinned Farmington’s Parker Zerfass in the third-place match.

Also for the Bruins, Max Moreno finished fourth at 126.

GIRLS WRESTLING

At Morris: La Salle-Peru’s Kiely Domyancich won the 115-pound bracket in the Interstate 8 Conference Tournament.

Domyancich pinned Kaneland’s Thalia Paton in the title match.

Also for L-P, Clare Domyancich finished fourth at 135.

BOYS BASKETBALL

St. Bede 66, Putnam County 54: Halden Hueneburg scored 18 points to help the No. 7-seeded Bruins to a victory in the first round of the Tri-County Conference Tournament in Peru.

Gino Ferrari had 16 points for the Bruins, while Kaden Newman contributed 11 points.

Jadan Stoddard led No. 10 PC with 14 points, while Miles Main added 10 points.

St. Bede will face No. 2 Roanoke-Benson at 7 p.m. Monday in Granville.

Lexington 62, Fieldcrest 57: Eddie Lorton scored 21 points as the Knights came up short in the Heart of Illinois Conference/McLean County Tournament third-place game in El Paso.

Kash Klendworth had 20 points for Fieldcrest, while Jordan Heider contributed 10 points.

Orangeville 63, LaMoille 51: Tyler Billhorn scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Lions lost a nonconference game in Orangeville.

Brayden Klein had 18 points and seven rebounds for LaMoille.

Earlville 40, Parkview Christian 38: The Red Raiders earned a nonconference victory in Earlville.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Princeton 60, Orion 32: Keighley Davis scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help the Tigresses to a Three Rivers Conference crossover victory in Princeton.

Camryn Driscoll had 15 points, seven assists and five steals for Princeton (12-8), while Olivia Mattingly added eight points and four rebounds.

Fieldcrest 78, LeRoy 48: TeriLynn Timmerman poured in 28 points to lead the Knights to a victory in the Heart of Illinois Conference/McLean County Tournament consolation final in El Paso.

Pru Mangan scored 24 points for Fieldcrest, while Macy Gochanour added 13 points.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Madison 85, IVCC 52: Qu’amar Hobbs scored 10 points as the Eagles lost a region game in Madison, Wisconsin.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Madison 86, IVCC 25: Jasmine Garman had seven points and three rebounds as the Eagles lost a region game in Madison, Wisconsin.
