Downtown Ottawa residents, employees, business owners asked to park in lot south of Jordan block

Initiative encourages keeping parking spaces clear for business customers

In an effort to keep parking spaces clear for business customers in the downtown, the city of Ottawa is encouraging downtown business owners, employees and residents to apply for a permit to park in the lot south of the Jordan block.

The ordinance allowing the city to use this parking lot was passed in September 2019, and its Tuesday reminder isn’t the first time the ordinance has been enforced, although it’s been a couple of years. Ottawa suspended parking enforcement at the start of the pandemic and brought it back in March 2021.

The parking lot south of the Jordan block will be reserved from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for employees, business owners and residents who have completed the application, and applying is free.

Parking permits can be obtained from the city parking administrator and there are no fees, although not transferable to other vehicles or persons.

Those who park in this lot without a permit during restricted hours will be subject to a $25 fine.
