At La Salle, the Streator boys tennis team opened its season with a triangular split – falling 3-2 to host La Salle-Peru but besting St. Bede 5-0.
Streator won both singles matches against L-P – No. 1 Davey Rashid winning 6-0, 6-0, and No. 2 Ryan Beck a victor by a 6-2, 6-4 score. All three doubles matches went to third-set tiebreakers, with the Cavaliers winning them all.
The Bulldogs won them all against the Bedans – Rashid at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-1), Izak Gallick No. 2 singles (forfeit), Cooper Wahl and Brenden Christiansen at No. 1 doubles (6-2, 2-6, 10-4), Ryan Beck and Andrew Vogel at No. 2 doubles (6-1, 6-0) and Jack Sorensen and Quinn Baker at No. 3 doubles (6-0, 6-0).
Softball
Annawan 3, Earlville 2: At Amboy, the Red Raiders (3-2) led early but surrendered one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings in the nonconference defeat.
Madyson Olson and Alexis Olson (RBI) were each 2 for 3 at the plate. Paige Marks (7 IP, 2 ER, 2 K) took the loss.
La Salle-Peru 10, Sandwich 0 (6 inn.): At Peru, the visiting Indians managed six hits – led by Allison Olson’s two singles and a double from Alexis Sexton – but no runs in the Interstate Eight defeat.
Maggie Knepper (2 IP, 5 ER, 1 K) took the loss.
Serena 13, WFC 2: At rural Streator, the visiting Huskers scored six runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back on heir way to the nonconference win.
Lanee Cole (3 for 3, two RBIs) and Paisley Twait (3 for 5, three RBIs, three runs scored) both homered for Serena. Katie Baker (single, triple, RBI), Jenna Setchell (triple, two RBIs), Alexis Linder (two singles, RBI) and Makayla McNally (double, single, RBI) also supported winning pitcher Maddie Glade (7 IP, 2 ER, 11 K).
Ella Sibert singled, homered and drove home two for the Warriors. Shae Simons (4 2/3 IP, 10 ER, 3 K) took the loss.
Newark 17, Hiawatha 1 (4 inn.): At Newark, the Norsemen (7-2) scored 12 runs in the opening two innings to notch the Little Ten Conference win.
Kaitlyn Schofield (4 IP, 1 ER, 7 K) got the win and homered as part of a three-hit, two-double, four-RBI day at the plate. Kailey Wohead was 3 for 4 with four RBIs, with Bre Dixon adding a pair of hits and three RBIs.
Indian Creek 7, Somonauk/HBR/Leland 4: At Somonauk, the host Bobcats were defeated in the Little Ten game despite a three-RBI day from Taylor Johnson and two hits off the bat of Morgan Potter.
Bre VerCautren (7 IP, 3 ER, 9 K) took the loss.
Seneca 15, Prairie Central 3 (4 inn.): At Fairbury, the Fighting Irish (3-0) took control with an 11-run third in support of winning pitcher Alyssa Zellers (4 IP, 3 ER, 2 K).
Kennedy Hartwig (home run, three RBIs), Ella Sterling (two doubles, two RBIs), Zoe Hougas (single, home run, RBI) and Maddy Klicker (two doubles, triple, 3 RBIs) spearheaded the Seneca onslaught.
Streator 7, Peotone 1: At the SHS Athletic Fields, the host Bulldogs (2-2, 1-0) won their Illinois Central Eight Conference opener behind the pitching of Jaelyn Blakemore (7 IP, 1 ER, 13 K).
Kadence Ondrey drove in two runs; Lilly Kupec singled, tripled and had an RBI; Emma Augustine had two singles and an RBI; Blakemore drove in a run; and Rilee Talty had a pair of singles in the victory.

Morris 10, Sandwich 0: At Morris, the visiting Indians managed only one hit – a Hunter Pavia single – in support of losing pitcher Andy Golinski (4 IP, 9 ER, 5 K).
Newark 10, Hiawatha 0 (5 inn.): At Newark, the Norsemen notched the Little Ten win behind a combined no-hitter tossed by starter Joe Martin (4 IP, 0 R, 11 K) and reliever Jake Kruser (1 IP, 0 R, 2 K).
Mitchell Kruser doubled and drove home three runs, with Jake Kruser and Caden Wheeler (3 for 3) driving in two runs apiece.
Annawan 18, Earlville 2 (4 inn.): In nonconference play, the Red Raiders allowed a 13-run second inning.
Bryar Keller doubled and drove in a run for Earlville. Ryan Browder (1 1/3 IP, 11 ER, 2 K) took the loss.
Boys track and field
Seneca 2nd, Streator 3rd at 7-teamer: At Seneca, the Irish (59.5 points) and Streator (40 points) finished second and third behind winner Westmont (66.5).
Seneca victories were scored by Josh Doloski (28.06 seconds in 100 men’s wheelchair) and Brady Danek (2:13.33 in 800).
