Prairie Fox Books announced it’s helping to raise funds to put free books into the hands of children.
The Ottawa bookstore, 719 La Salle St., is setting up a permanent spot in its store to make donations to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The program gifts free books to children from birth to age 5 through funding shared by Parton and local community partners.
Locally, 178 children are served in the program partnered with the United Way of Eastern La Salle County, according to the Imagination Library website, and 21,572 children are enrolled in Illinois.
The official kickoff for the partnership will be at the bookstore’s pie competition on Sunday, March 13, with all proceeds benefiting local Imagination Library recipients. To compete, visit prairiefoxbooks.com/imaginationlibrary. The cost is $5 to enter a pie and $1 a vote. The winning baker will win a cookbook of their choice ($35 or less) from Prairie Fox Books.
