30th anniversary of Desert Storm Combat Operations commemorated Sunday in Marseilles

Desert Storm Veteran Scott Buennemeyer led ceremony

Desert Storm Veteran Scott Buennemeyer led a ceremony Sunday at the Middle East Conflicts Wall in Marseilles to honor the 30th anniversary of the ending of Desert Storm Combat Operations.

Capt. Patrick Brian Olson, whose name is located on the fifth panel at the monument, was an A-10 pilot who served in the Air Force during Desert Storm. He died on the battlefield Feb. 27, 1991.

Buennemeyer was at the border of Iraq and Saudi Arabia with his unit, Echo Flight 50th Security Police Group at Hahn Air Base, the day Olson’s plane went down.

Buennemeyer led attendees Sunday with a prayer, shared Olson’s story and “Taps” was played.
