Ottawa, Morris natives among new hires

The Ottawa Police Department has hired three officers, Officers Kathleen Sullivan, Tyler Brewer and Kari Whalen.

Sullivan worked with the Chicago Police Department before relocating to Ottawa.

Brewer is an Ottawa native who attended Illinois State University and graduated with his bachelor’s in criminal justice.

Whalen is a Morris native who received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, criminology and psychology from Loyola University Chicago.

Brewer and Whalen will be leaving for 14 weeks of police training and upon completing the academy and becoming state-certified, both will be assigned to a field training officer for another 14 weeks. They will then be assigned to the patrol division.
