Ready for fun: Marseilles kicks off 6-day Fun Days festival July 6

Festival includes fireworks, parade, carnival, among other activities

While some communities have hosted their summer festivals, the fun is just beginning Tuesday, July 6, in Marseilles.

The annual festival will include a carnival, parade, fireworks and plenty of family activities to go around over the course of six days. The festival was cancelled in 2020 because of the pandemic.

Marseilles Fun Days kicks off at 5 p.m. Tuesday with the Ducky Derby hosted by Snug Harbor Marina, 103 Liberty St., and runs until Sunday, July 11, with a number of activities at various locations throughout the city.

Wednesday’s events include a First Responders Spaghetti Supper at the fire station, 205 Lincoln St., starting at 4:30 p.m., the Boy Scouts Dunk Tank at 5 p.m. at Knudson Park and Magic Matt’s Family Fun Show at 7 p.m., which also includes balloon art. Matthew Scherer has entertained audiences for more than 30 years. At dusk, “Toy Story 4″ will be playing in the park.

Tom Edwards is playing a free concert at 6 p.m. Thursday at Knudson Park, and those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair. Free ice cream and water will be served.

Additionally, the carnival begins at 5 p.m. Thursday on Lincoln Street, and mega pass wristbands can be purchased before July 8 at City Hall for $40. A special for daily unlimited rides costs $30.

The Marseilles Public Library, 155 E. Bluff St., is hosting a book sale starting at 9 a.m. Friday, and the carnival is open to people with disabilities from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sign-up is available at City Hall, 209 Lincoln St.

Knudson Park will be the home to beer and food at 5 p.m. Friday, with Wreckin’ Dixie playing a free concert at 7 p.m. in the band shell.

The Eighth Annual Dr. Sutton Memorial Bridge Walk starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, with sign-ups at 10 a.m. at the Marseilles Nursing Service, 227 Main St., and the Seattle Sutton Marseilles Museum, 151 Washington St., will open at 1 p.m. There will be free train rides and popcorn for children along with a special showing of Seattle Sutton’s hand-sewn wedding dress, which she and her three daughters wore at their weddings.

The Seattle Sutton Marseilles Museum will be celebrating Seattle Sutton’s upcoming 90th birthday.

The carnival on Saturday runs from noon to midnight, and the food and beer in Knudson Park runs from 5 p.m. to midnight. Snap Shot Band will be playing at 8 p.m. and the fireworks will start at dusk.

The Marseilles Lions Club, 511 Commercial St., is hosting a chicken fry 11 a.m. Sunday along with music from Elton John Tribute artist Robin Taylor. There also will be a cake walk.

The parade kicks off at 1 p.m., with lineup starting at noon at Marseilles Elementary School, 201 Chicago St.

The Marseilles swimming pool, 555 Commercial St., will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a free swim open to everyone. Cow Pie Bingo will tape place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the tee-ball field.
