U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon, will make a series of stops Tuesday and Wednesday within his 16th Congressional District.
The congressman is expected to visit an Ottawa manufacturer, make a trip to Seneca classrooms and take part in a roundtable discussion with community leaders on the future of Dresden Generating Station at Morris City Hall. None of these visits Tuesday are open to the public.
Kinzinger also will make visits in Rockford and Byron on Wednesday.
The congressman, an Air Force veteran who flew missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, has been outspoken about the U.S.’s handling of Afghanistan after the decision to withdraw troops. He said withdrawing will not stop terrorism or alleviate threats to the U.S. He also believes it is “naive” to believe the Taliban will be diplomatic.
“I’ve said countless times that withdrawing our troops emboldens our enemies and puts our allies in grave danger,” Kinzinger said Aug. 16 after the fall of Afghanistan’s capital to the Taliban. “And yet, both President Trump and President Biden made their announcements anyway — broadcasting to our enemies that we were leaving and telling our allies around the world that we had given up.”
