Streator will budget roughly $10,000 in 2022 to allow for more electricity use in City Park.
The city plans on installing four new green electricity boxes at the request of Light Up Streator. The volunteer-based committee continues to expand its Christmas lights display, resulting in a need for more power options.
Joe Richard, of Light Up Streator, said the committee plans to feature more sponsored lighted displays on the perimeter of City Park.
“We’re trying to enhance what we have and our goal is to continue to grow,” Richard said.
City Engineer Jeremy Palm said the City Park has the service capacity and installing the electricity boxes will be no issue. Mayor Jimmie Lansford said the boxes are purchased locally from a company in Ottawa.
City Councilwoman Tara Bedei said placing electricity accessibility along the southern end of the park along Hickory Street would have a benefit. She said the food truck festival and other festivals that utilize the south parking lot have to rely on generators as a power source.
