Scott Cameron will be Streator High School’s next full-time superintendent beginning July 1.
The board approved a three-year agreement Tuesday with Cameron, who is Pawnee Unit School District’s superintendent. The board interviewed five candidates, selecting Cameron.
Cameron has agreed to work with interim Superintendent Hank Boer for some days prior to taking the post to get acquainted with the district. Boer is serving as the district’s interim superintendent, after Bill Mattingly did so in the first semester. They succeeded Matt Seaton, who resigned prior to the school year to become vice president for business services and finance position at Illinois Valley Community College.
Cameron is a 1989 graduate of Shelbyville High School. He graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where he received his bachelors degree in administration of justice. He received his bachelors of education, master of science in Education, and specialist in education degrees from Eastern Illinois University.
He started his career with the Kansas School District as a teacher and coach. From there he continued his teaching career in the Effingham School District. He was an administrator at Tower Hill, which was then annexed into the Pana School District. He was the principal at Central A&M Middle School, then superintendent for the Beecher City School District.
“His background in finance and his background working with the community stood out,” said Streator High School Board President Steve Biroschik. “He was well-prepared and he knew a lot about our school during the interviews. He was able to articulate that very well.”
Cameron was not present during Tuesday’s meeting.
