American Legion Post 33 in Ottawa to host trivia night to benefit Auxiliary

$10 entry in advance

Ottawa American Legion

The American Legion at 901 La Salle St. in Ottawa is hosting a trivia night benefit for its Auxiliary starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, with registration beginning at noon in its upstairs.

Cost for entry is $10 in advance or $12 at the door to participate in a day full of raffles, drawings and trivia. Prizes include four meal passes to the American Legion’s Thursday night dinners, gift cards from local merchants, among other items.

There also will be hors d’oeuvres served by the Auxiliary and a cash bar available. All proceeds benefit the Auxiliary and in turn the American Legion and local veterans.

Organizer Hank Walsh said he has more than 40 years experience organizing trivia nights, fundraisers and benefits and the people at the Legion have helped him out over the years.

“I’ve done a lot of fundraisers for veterans over the years because they fought for our freedom and I want to help this organization where I can,” Walsh said.

Walsh said the upstairs is spacious and will have more than enough room for people to socially distance in case of COVID-19 concerns.

There also is a chairlift for those who can’t make it up the stairs.

Trivia will have 10 categories of five questions each with more questions following in case of a tie.
